@transcendentempress I grew up with Atari ST, and kept on using it for quite a long time (MIDI + music).

I also used it for desktop-publishing, which was a lot better on AtariST - so my answer is Atari ST.

But the high-res color graphics + better sound + blitter were pretty damn cool on the Amiga, to be honest.

@andreasgoebel I was too young back then to do anything else than kid games on those, but if I summarize what I learned since then, the overall is that base Amiga is better on the hardware side until you start adding stuff to Atari ST?

The main differences were: Atari ST had high res monochrome graphics at 70 Hz.

The Amiga had high res color graphics, but with 50 Hz interlaced, so the effective frequency would be 25 Hz.

You'd get a headache quite quickly when doing dtp on the Amiga.

The builtin sound chip on the Amiga was a lot better, but Atari had a MIDI port you could plug in real synthesizers.

In short: Amiga for gaming, Atari for work + music.
