Not sure what I said on here recently lol but I've been getting followed by a bunch of US themed accounts lately for some reason. Are y'all seeing this too or just me?

They are all either US news, advocacy groups or some sort of political account 🫩

I don't live there, idgaf. How can I explain how little of a fuck I give about that particular country and its politics?

@dinozombie It is indeed surprising. If they aren't bot accounts, perhaps some of the accounts you follow have dragged others along as a side effect. For instance, a US news account might look at the followers of an account focused on a specific topic and then follow all those accounts to gain wider visibility (in a rather blunt and intrusive way).

We don't have any of those massive US news account followings on Peculiar (IceShrimp). Honestly, I’m not familiar with the recommendation or moderation mechanisms at all. You’d be better off asking our resident Fediverse Shaman (Peculiar’s grandmaster Admin) @tournesol who could certainly figure out the reasons behind this. He did migrate our instance to OVH, but I don't think that’s the cause; I believe it was due to a technical issue.

@Sidoine @tournesol ah could be that people I follow made me into a target, cause I don't follow any US news or political accounts myself

@dinozombie @Sidoine if they are from different instances, then maybe serendipity ?
And maybe passing your account to allow manually follows could be a good idea for the time being :/
