Okay non-French speaking people lemme explain, “Monsieur et Madame” (literally “Mister and Mistress”) is a whole dad jokes subgenre where you present your victim with a surname and the gender of their child, and they have to guess a first name which, when said with the surname, will reveal the dad joke. A classic and very easy one is “Monsieur et Madame Bon ont un fils” (Mr and Mrs Good have a son) and the answer is Jean (John) because Jean Bon (John Good) sounds like jambon (ham).

@chaprot so much of french humor hinges on "this thing sounds a bit like that other thing", it does sound a bit silly once translated.

Yup absolutely, I actually enjoyed the idea of explaining it in English more than I think people would enjoy reading about it 😅

(Although to be fair it is a bit silly in French too, especially the Jean Bon example 😁)
