This is absolutely shocking. What Shabana Mahmood is calling for is essentially a deeply authoritarian, "big brother” state. It is totally unacceptable, and we must resist this dystopian future.

"Human rights are not a reward for good behaviour; they exist to restrain state power. History shows that mass surveillance, even when dressed up as public protection, disproportionately harms marginalised communities and steadily undermines trust in the justice system.
“The argument that people who have ‘nothing to hide have nothing to fear’ is precisely the logic that history – and Orwell – warned us about. Expanding state surveillance simply because technology allows it shifts power away from the public and into the hands of the state.”
