One funny thing about vegan products that there's either a maximum of five ingredients, all of them technically edible and something you might already have in your cupboard if you were a very exotic shopper... or a full page paragraph of 78 almost unpronounceable chemical compounds, plus potato starch.

I'm not very bothered about it, it just amuses me!

@sinituulia I'm also amused by "no artificial flavourings" in vegan meat replacements. We're really pushing the definition of "artificial" to its limit here !

@just_chill I don't think even the EU has a solid definition for what artificial means...

@sinituulia I believe all compounds that are found in nature count as natural, regardless of their actual origin. Vanilin for instance, is actually part of the vanilla bean, but not too dificult to make in a lab.

@just_chill Not all things found in nature are good for you, either. But since most people can't be arsed or don't have the opportunities to learn chemistry and physics, or read very long sentences, there's probably no way the labelling is going to adopt "synthesised inside a laboratory but chemically indistinguishable from a naturally occurring, harmless compound" 😆

@sinituulia what a shame, we'd get some really fun labels :neocat_laugh:
