Day 14 of is done! One more review day and I start a real live project.

The instructor is a big fan of Taylor Swift (or was when he wrote this) and uses a lot of Swifty stuff in the examples, but I have to admit I've only heard a few of her more catchy songs...maybe I'll take a listen. Considering my preference for girl punk and neo-soul - I'm not hopeful.

Day 15 complete! Excited to start my first project tomorrow.

This day was a summary of everything we've learned. Part of me thought "why didn't I just watch this video and skip the rest? Most of the syntax and concepts are the same as other languages."

But I know better - there are minute differences and hints about SwiftUI best practices that I would have missed. And practice makes...better (never perfect)

As extra credit, a crossword of Swift terms was offered, so sharing that here in case you seasoned SwiftUI devs want to give it a shot. :)

Day 16 - First Day in XCode as part of the , super excited. Couldn't help myself and expanded a bit.

Throughout my coding career, I have always used Scooby Doo data - colors, episodes, characters, villains, etc. for my mock data. So why stop now?

What I added on my own tonight: background and foreground colors, plus opacity.

What I could not figure out: how to center the freaking button and text.

Avert your eyes, UI designers.

Day 17 - Created a full fledged(?) app that determines the split check amount for a dinner party. So I guess I'm done now, I'm an iOS developer.

Lemme just make it so you need to pay me $.99 each time you split a check before you can see the final total.

Finished up Day 18 of on the first project - the Check Splitting app. Added the total tab plus tip, and refactoring the Tip selector.

I'm back at it! Day 19 was a challenge day, and I was pretty nervous about it after being off for a full week.

I was able to reference my previous work and completed the task. Of course, I made it more difficult by adding an emoji and using enums instead of an array. But it worked. I really wanted to add horrific blue background colors (tardis) but I don't have..time...

Day 20: Layouts, Colors and Alert Messages. I have an affinity for gradients, so had some fun there with the Scooby Doo palette. Yeah, that's right. I'm your UI Designer's worst nightmare.

Day 21 had us creating a "Guess the Flag" app, and applying styles to it.

Stacks upon stacks upon stacks.

Gradients. Font Styles. Spacers.

Day 22 was more Flag stuff. We added a Score and reset the game after 8 attempts. A pretty short day.

I ended up trying to add sound for the winning and losing scores but I never could get it to work. I'm not sure if it's just the emulator or what.

Day 23 complete. What I took away from this day was that there are ways to reduce repetitive code and apply common properties across multiple objects.

And, sequencing of modfiers matters ALOT.

Day 24 - View and Modifier Recap and Challenges is complete. Happy to report I "understood the assignment" on 2 of the 3 challenges without question. Is it starting to click? I dare not get too confident.

Now to not FORGET everything I learned!

Day 25 - This is a challenge day and it took me a bit longer than expected. I'm about halfway through a rock, paper, scissors game. Work duties call. But I got a bit done!

Here we go. SwiftUI puts a lot of guardrails up around structures, but they sure are letting me use some horrific color choices. Now on to Day 26!

Day 26 was a "here's what we are going to do next" summary, so decided to get that out of the way.

Went over date and time formatting, always a good time. And then unexpectedly jumped into a quick introduction to machine learning.

Day 27 - Utilizing CoreML, date and time components, and a plural word function I've never seen in other languages before.

^[\(totalQuantity) cup](inflect: true)

This returns "1 cup" or "2 cups" depending on the quantity.

Neat but not intuitive!

Day 28 - Project 3 Wrap Up.

So this was supposed to be a "Better Sleep" app that calculates what time you should go to bed based on your coffee intake.

I don't drink coffee, so added my own addiction theme.

Jumped into Day 29. We're starting a new project, and today was just a starting point. Looks like we will be loading a large file and choosing values randomly from it.

Day 30, we continued building out a word scramble game. At some point, guard was introduced and I was expected to know it, but...I did not. So had to do some catch up there.

It's a shortcut to writing
if statements for requirements in a function - like "this function is going to fail if the string is empty, so GUARD against that, and fail out if it is empty". Or that's what I'm going with anyway.

@box464 I use the guard pattern a lot in C#, it just doesn't have a keyword for it so it's usually an inverted if statement with a return or throw at the top of a method.
I had a quick look at the Swift doc, it seems like the interesting thing about the guard keyword is that you can do initialization for the rest of the function there, maybe with some pattern matching as well.
