Has there ever been a video game which "officially" supported cross-platform play between consoles which are two generations apart? E.g., between PS3 and PS5 or Xbox Original and Xbox One?
Based on Wikipedia's advanced search feature, my suspicious is that there are no such games. For example, if I search for all games with online multiplayer that were available for both PS3 and PS5, I get 8 results:

Those results are:
* Doom I and II: I don't think you can directly play multiplayer between PS3 and PS5 (but please correct me if I'm wrong).
* Sonic Generations: Only makes it into the search because the remake shares the same Wikipedia article as the original, and I don't think they are compatible.
* Fortnite Battle Royale: This seems like a mistake. Was this game ever on PS3?
* Minecraft: The PS3 version (legacy console) was never able to play multiplayer with the PS5 version (Bedrock).
* Final Fantasy XIV: The PS3 version was shut down in 2017, prior to the release of the PS5 version.
* DC Universe Online: The PS3 version was shut down in 2018, prior to the release of the PS5 version.
* GTA Online: The PS3 version was shut down in 2021, prior to the release of the PS5 version in 2022 (though the PS4 version might have run on the PS5, so it might have been possible for PS5 players to play with PS3 players for a brief time even without native support).
I tried several combinations of other Wikipedia category intersections for consoles two generations apart, but likewise didn't find any game which officially supported cross-play between consoles two generations apart. For example, Dragon Quest X was available on the Wii and Switch, but it gained Switch support after dropping Wii support.
However, it's possible there is such a game and Wikipedia's categories (or my searches) don't pick it up.
