The main problem with all these tax issues is potentially medium- to long-term. As we've seen with graphics cards, once you start to normalise over a more or less long period the fact that you've raised the price ceiling by $500 or $1,000, years later there's still no turning back, and companies are more than happy to keep prices at that level.
