So Ubuntu app center can handle the .deb packages installation, but not their update. When you open a newer version of the package it's like "nope, nothing more to do, that one is already installed." :neocat_facepalm:

Oh, and there's the mention that Debian packages updates are handled by system's update manager, like it would automatically do it, but the thing is, it actually doesn't, as the good old repository system still works the same, if nothing adds the repository, it won't magically appear.

Flatpak has been a growing form of distribution for user-facing programs for the Linux desktop. I say Linux desktop instead of a specific desktop like GNOME or KDE because Flatpak aims to be desktop and distro agnostic. While Snap says that it is distro agnostic, in reality it is heavily tied to both systemd and Canonical, taking an Ubuntu-first approach to desktop apps.

Previously, Ubuntu used the home-grown Upstart. Upstart was an init service similar to systemd, but on a much larger scope. Like all changes Canonical makes good things, Upstart was shelved. Lomiri made great use of Upstart as it was the init system that it was made for, so the UBports devs had to rewrite all the init services and system components of Lomiri that made use of Upstart to instead use systemd. This was a timely and quite boring development shift, but it was eventually completed.

That's not a good reason for using Hugo, but having read the two blog posts I'm not surprised the blog owner has done the necessary steps toward a healthier blogging infrastructure.
