Star Trek Online is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. They've released a new episode and everything. I bought a lifetime membership about 12 years ago. When you buy a lifetime membership one of the bonuses is the ability to play as a Liberated Borg. I have three or four different Liberated Borg characters, including a Liberated Borg Romulan. In all the years of playing, never once has the fact that I'm playing as a Liberated Borg come up. It has never been mentioned even as we were slaughtering Borg, or working with Seven of Nine, or working with the Borg Cooperative. The multiple incarnations of the Borg Queen we've killed never mentioned it. The various alternate universe Borg didn't mention it.
The newest episode they released involves Hugh who is also a Liberated Borg. He is the first character to ever mention that I am playing a Liberated Borg. He mentions it multiple times.
It only took 15 years for them to bother bringing it up. It still felt pretty neat.

Not that y'all care, but I played as Admiral Aleph Null, a Liberated Borg human science officer, Captain of the Dev Null, a copy of the Krenim Imperium temporal weapon ship (Annorax Class).

It's really cool they did that, for indeed most of the time your character species/factions is often just extremely barely mentioned, especially since for years they've stopped doing faction-specific story arcs.

Which often leads to weird situations where you're like "huh, why would my character be involved in this, as it's clearly regarding a faction they're not a part of?", or as the example you give, where your character is doing things you wouldn't have them doing at all, or at least not without them having moral issues about it, in roleplay.
