Saved and liberated the books I "bought" at Amazon for my Kindle. Amazon will stop offering the "Download & transfer via USB" option, so I have downloaded all 210 books. After downloading, I hunt them through Calibre and a certain plugin to remove the DRM stuff, convert the books to EPUB format so I have my private backup and can put them on a new ebook reader that is more open than the Amazon walled garden. And in future I will buy my eBooks someplace else.
Download & transfer via USB Transfer Tip: After downloading, use your USB cable to connect your computer and Kindle. Your Kindle will appear as a drive on your computer. Copy your downloaded file from your computer to your Kindle's documents folder. Starting 26 February 2025, the ‘Download & Transfer via USB’ option will no longer be available. You can still send Kindle books to your Wi-Fi enabled devices by selecting the ‘Deliver or Remove from Device’ option. Learn more about managing downloads
