For this week's piece, it's obviously a tribute to the work of Stéphane Picq, and of course it's a track from Cryo's Dune soundtrack, which was one of the biggest video-game slams of my childhood.

I had the CD-ROM version, and I still remember the big box with its incredible design, with its full-size manual that could be read horizontally, and this game with its crazy visuals and music, one of the first I played with 3D CGI animations.

@transcendentempress You know the work of Stéphane Picq. :neofox_aww: The Atlantis soundtrack (also Cryo) is one of the best game soundtracks ever made and I made use of so many of his tracks in ttrpg sessions. „Lost Eden“ was also brill. And I was the only one far and wide in my bubble knowing or appreciating his work.

I now think you’re awesome. I suspected before, but you now delivered proof.

@orangelantern :blobcat_blush::blobcat_blush:

I was just checking his page on Bandcamp, there's the remastered album of Lost Eden here as well! I really need to take time to play the game some day, as much as I loved all the Cryo games I played back then, never had the chance for this one. I had the walkthrough in a magazine's best-of though. 😆

@transcendentempress Oh, Atlantis was horrible from a technical point of view. The controls felt like punishment and the solutions to some of the puzzles could be considered arcane.
But it was a good story and the atmosphere was fantastic, which was mostly due to the incredible, amazing, soundtrack and soundscape. This game taught young me how important sound really is for a fictional world.
(That and Myst which also did a fantastic job with this, but Picq's soundtrack still evokes the stronger images in my mind)

@orangelantern Criticisms that can be made of many Cryo games tbf, to the point that if I remember the magazines of the time speaking of all their productions I've never played, it had almost become an unfortunate trademark: incredible visuals, music and atmosphere, rather average gameplay if not really terrible.
