@davidbamford it's just a default limitation of mastodon cause they want to stick as close as Twitter. Like you said, you should see if the admins are okay with raising that limit or if not possible and really really needed, you'll have to make an account on other instances but I'm not sure of an easy way to check the post limit as a user
By experience, we have 3000 character limit on peculiar.florist and it's rarely abused. I try to ask to put really long text under a CW to not overload the TL
