Help me out here people? I have a bit of a dilemma I'm trying to sort out. Please let me know what you think?

Substack is a nazi bar.

When I see people using it I should?

@carapace I'd suggest you to write a blog post, or a few blog posts, about why Substack is a Nazi bar and what people could use instead. (I already wrote an inflammatory blog post about RSS feeds so I'm in.)

Put the "R" in "URI", and then let your readers share the resource when it's appropriate.

@oceane Ah cheers! That's a good idea. I wouldn't even have to write it, I'm sure it's been covered, eh?

Thank you.

@carapace I'm not going to assert my own ideas upon you or your blog, and I didn't really dig Substack, but I was thinking I could suggest a few points here and there if you wished.

@carapace I mean "I'm in" means that I'm available to support you upon request, not that I'm breaking into your own writing process

@oceane Assert away, your ideas are good. 🙂

I was concerned that I was being too puritan, but events seem to indicate that a more strident denouncement of nazism et. al. is called for after all, eh?

@carapace Hi, IME grand proclamations (and more broadly, social media discourse on events) glue together lacking data. Your goal is to inform your readers, not to leverage their trauma into fight/flight/freeze/fawn trauma responses.

In other words, being too puritan or too strident about Substack is a false dichotomy: you'd rather let the facts speak for themselves. A quick draft could have the following structure:

1. What's fascism/Nazism? How do they operate today?

2. How is Substack enabling Nazism, and can we foresee a few possible processes/outcomes?

3. Why does the Substack CEO want so hard to be a Nazi bar owner, and what are his connections to Steve Bannon and the alt-right on one hand, with techno-libertarians (Zuck & co) on the other? Does his social ascension depend on bootlicking some broader techno-libertarian program?

4. Can we predict that the current openness of Substack (RSS feeds, emails) will sooner or later turn into a walled garden? Why? Could technology prevent that and is it accidentally not implemented? By the way, do we trust them enough to collect the email address of every e.g. heated.world subscriber?

5. How is using Substack enabling all of the above and are there credible alternatives?

Speaking of asserting my own ideas,

Let's talk about our toolchain! What's your OS?

@oceane

Each of these is against the techo-crypto-fascist thing, but still using it. Should this bother me as much as it does?

Mostly FreeBSD these days. Ubuntu for a couple of laptops with no ethernet ports.

I've been meaning to switch to OpenBSD.
