If you are using bad space’s blocklist I think you should also be careful because Ro seems to be going after people who criticize his transphobic behavior as if they were white supremacists

I have no doubt he experiences serious racism and harassment here on the fediverse, but whatever good he might do about it is undermined by him abusing his power to attack legitimate critics, now including a trans Filipino

I feel compelled to call this out because what he is doing is hurting both the cause of anti-racism within the trans community and the cause of anti-transphobia in racialized communities, and as a member of both groups I am personally impacted by this abusive, bad faith behavior.

If the bad space blocklist is filled with personal vendettas against trans people, then Ro is actively making me less safe here.

@hyenagirl64 The ActivityPub protocol is a web 2 solution to the web 2 itself. The web 2 is mostly leveraged by e.g. Microsoft and Google against the vision that the FSF is pushing for. The GNU project wouldn't harm people, but RSS shared the same space as Twitter and Facebook, so it wasn't addictive enough to go big.

The ActivityPub protocol, as an official web 2 solution to the web 2, has to gaslight its audience so people would maintain servers and others would write their own server implementations. Implementing infrastructure without having to gaslight people is part of what's at stake with the NLnet funding, but because the FSF is so underfunded we need to get most of humanity here as a backup plan, then to move along with the web as a read-only database of interconnected documents.

Claiming that an ActivityPub developer looking for success would be gaslighting someone is thus incorrect. In order to be successful in the Twitter/Facebook space, they have to gaslight most of their userbase. This is what makes moderation tools so critical.

Ro screencapped a post by a user on mastodon.social using the site at cyberpunk.lol. Ro then claimed he did this because the post had been deleted on mastodon.social, even though it hadn’t been at that point. Ro then said Vanta being upset about him using her site to screencapped the post while he was simultaneously accusing her of being a white supremecist was an example of her racism.

Are you arguing this isn’t Ro gaslighting Vanta because he did it using activitypub?

@hyenagirl64 Oh sorry, I've read a bit about it but wasn't aware of this. To my understanding, Ro is claiming that Vanta and other would have targeted him.

I'd happily believe this was a misunderstanding, but racism is deeply entranched here on the fedi. It's telling to see Black trans people chat with Black cis people, but not with white trans people.

@oceane 🐉Vanta called for him to be fediblocked because he has a history of misgendering trans people in retaliation for them being racist and had just done so yet again. He then retaliated by accusing Vanta of being a white supremecist and of being in league with his enemies.

In addition to being trans, Vanta is Filipino and homeless. She survives off of fediverse mutual aid, so by calling him out she took a pretty serious risk of losing her ability to eat.

While a Filipino can absolutely aid and abet white supremacy, this is DARVO. Vanta was not saying the people Ro is misgendering aren’t racist, she is saying that he to be blocked because he won’t stop misgendering them. If anyone else were doing what he is doing there would be no controversy, but because Ro is powerful people are not holding him accountable and instead trying to excuse his transphobia in the grounds that expecting him to use correct pronouns is an undue burden on him and a form of racism.
