@ayilathebailey For the record, you're not a failure, and mutual aid is what this whole network is about. (I'm not talking about ActivityPub.) I literally can't make online payments, but I'm glad to be of some help.
@oceane Thanks! I've been a little more hopeful in the past few hours with people's help and camaraderie. Going from supporting folks, to having to learn how to ask for help (and do so repeatedly) is more-than-humbling. Amanda Palmer is right and all that, but I ain't like her tho' in several ways (and they know that) and it is so damn difficult to ask when you've got pride baked in you so deeply that it carmelized
@ayilathebailey You're welcome, but literally, the internet was made for mutual aid. People are working, some as volunteers, some as State or NPO employees, so you can raise money to make your groceries.
And I'm serious. I'm not talking on behalf of everyone of course, but some of us hang around in the same chatrooms.
We're also working on communication and access to information (e.g. ActivityPub, Spritely, the GNU project, among others) to improve the safety net, but most well-known, large IT companies literally have conflicting economic interests.
@ayilathebailey I think my point is that not feeling safe enough to use the internet the way it's meant to doesn't necessarily come from your AFK sense of pride, i.e., companies have been messing with us for decades, so few people realize it, but we all use the internet because we need mutual aid. All of these free blog posts aren't free work for the next entitled entrepreneur (and of course, the same could be said, with a special sauce of deliberate ignorance, for social media posts); we write down what we had to figure out by ourselves because we find pleasure in helping each other. Not being able to give to your crowdfund right now is tickling me off; saying I'd feel frustrated would be an understatement.
