Please do not take this as a gratuitous attack against Chris Trottier. I could've shared this two days ago. But we live in a transphobic society and "actually, she's cisgender" isn't a good rebuttal in itself.
What the transgender community seems to have been doing so far, from my point of view, would've been critically thinking about why do cisgender people keep attacking her, with a few valid points that I don't quite understand yet:
- racism: according to e.g. US billionaires, any woman who isn't white, abled, cishet, and willing to bear children isn't a "real" woman, fitting to a christo-fascist, supremacist vision of a 1000-years world order (women of color should get back to harvesting cotton); - a coordinated attack on trans people: we aren't merely laughed at in the streets any more, "anti-trans talking points were dreamed up in a newsroom" (IIRC); and - this attack could be imported from the US to other countries like France, for example through the Atlas network: a few days before the French legislative elections, a journalist has visibly struggled to remember her talking point and said in a very artificial way "beyond X and the Bardella mania"… Corrupt journalists could just pretend to be reporting on US politics…
This has never been about an intensive investigation into boxing or into the Algerian society. I'll forgive Chris because we're both autistic and I understand that we can get lost, but this is still a mistake, this is transphobic, and he's responsible for doing his best so this doesn't happen again. We neurodivergent people do have some control about our symptoms, and we need to try to find out what goes wrong when we fail so we can avoid failing again.
This isn't the first time Chris goes on a sort of highly articulated, documented rant, entirely missing the point. Please do better.
