For those of you who write lots of note in your #PKM tool, how do you deprecate notes?
I write a ton of notes about all my projects/ ideas. Lots and lots of notes. But often, further thought or research means that a new note's contents supersede an older ones contents.
I don't always want to delete the old note, because understanding how I got from A to B to C is helpful, but I want to be able to quickly see that this note no longer contains current info.
@jack Denote provides a signature facility which lets you write arbitrary Unicode symbols, to symbolize the relationship of the note to others or to the system. You could use any symbol to deprecate notes, I imagine.
By the way, using a mechanical keyboard you can program a layer (similar to e.g. the alt gr layer) to insert any Unicode symbol, including emojis or text strings.
I don't use Denote this way yet but I think that's how I'm going to use signatures from now.
For your information, Denote is meant as a cross-platform and interoperable PKN concept relying first and foremost on a file naming scheme. It is of the form DATE==SIGNATURE--TITLE__LABELS.EXTENSION. If your text format supports tags then the Emacs implementation can be programmed to insert them in your frontmatter, but this isn't required.
