Pol world, fascism, end of nations
Here is the dictionary definition of a nation:"A human group, usually quite large, whose members are linked by affinities based on a set of common ethnic, social (language, religion, etc.) and subjective (historical, cultural traditions, etc.) elements, the coherence of which is based on an aspiration to form or maintain a community"In the light of the last part of this definition and the elections in a number of countries, notably France and the United States at the moment, there is a point that is not mentioned openly, but which is becoming absolutely crucial: faced with the hatred and rejection of one part of the population by another part of the population, in our countries where parties with openly fascist ideologies find themselves on the doorstep of power, do nations still exist?
When millions of people choose a political party that advocates classifying part of the population as second-class citizens, or even as undesirables to be expelled or made to disappear, and clearly don't give a damn about what happens to those who fall victim to it, is this not a clear sign that the will to live together in the same national community is dead?
Because we have to recognise that we are reaching a tipping point where we can no longer talk about mere disagreements, whether political or social. We are in a situation where a healthy cohabitation within the same national community is no longer desired by a significant portion of its members, and where this same portion is already endangering the lives of others.
Let's see if we can collectively manage to delay the deadline, or even, though at this point I sincerely think it would take a miracle, reverse the trend. But I realize that it's very clearly the kind of thing we'll need to address sooner or later: do we continue all together like this at the risk of falling back into a much darker era, or has the time come to part ways in order to create something new?
