i am considering moving our social instance to mastodon (shutting this one down, warning users for about 1-2 months to migrate over, etc.) for a better mobile experience. I don’t like mastodon’s web UI, but i can make a ton of changes there if needed. i want to hear your opinions and takes #fediverse#mastodon#iceshrimp#misskeyy
i do like iceshrimp rn tho, and i don’t want to break what works. but there needs to be a better mobile solution, and i do kinda miss my push notifications + a dedicated mobile app
@Skunk@tournesol and that’s mainly the point: i prefer to have push notifications as that’s kind of a basic / standard feature. main reason why im considering jumping is uploading videos seems to be slightly problematic. i may need to spend time trouble shooting, but if it continues to be an issue ill be reluctantly looking at mastodon.
@Skunk@tournesol iceshrimp + misskey web experience is unparalleled, but trying to play videos seems to be a bit of an issue, even though ive been updating the container (might have to update again). its been an issue ive been tracking + trying to fix for quite a bit
@josh@Skunk Yeah, so I don’t know why you don’t have push notification available but yeah, videos can be hard. I’m particularly triggered by gif being played as a normal mp4 lmao
@tournesol@Skunk push notifications are a available in the progressive web all (which then gets auto disabled down the line for some reason), ice cubes (mastodon app) supports most of iceshrimps features except push notifs. Videos are just a major pain point. I’ll probably spin up another instance and see if i can compare issues between, and take the most stable route.
