My partner is nervous/excited. Aside from some slatternly playtime we've done together, they haven't actively dated outside our relationship in years, and now they're about to commit to a first date with this dude they've been talking to (and about) for a month, and they realized they're like, projecting concerns from their previous marriage onto this situation.
MY PARTNER: Do you have any thoughts on this coffee date?
ME: I think it sucks that the Arleta Library closed, because that spot had the best breakfast and coffee and was like, right next to a park—
MY PARTNER: No, I mean like, about the date itself.
ME: . . . Uh . . . Have fun?
MY PARTNER: I guess it feels weird to hear my partner telling me he has no concerns about a first date after all the insecure shit I went through with husbo.
ME: Oh, THAT'S what we're talking about.
MY PARTNER: I just want to make sure there isn't anything I should or shouldn't do, you know?
ME: Babe, it's YOUR date. You should do precisely whatever you wish as long as you're safe and not like, joining a cult or something. This guy is really cute [I have seen pics, he is a looker], you have artistic tastes in common, he seems to have a happy relationship with his own partner... I mean, you'll hit it off or you won't. Either way, we will probably make new friends and it's not like you can't just keep looking around.
MY PARTNER: He told me he thinks you're hot.
ME: snickers
