@hi_mayank This is literally a cult doing virtue signaling. I appreciate the attention you've put in highlighting using their color scheme, but this is disinformation.
As a matter of fact, they're only losing $2/month for accounts amounting to about $12/month, and they've milked mentally vulnerable users for almost a decade. This is, again, literally cheap PR from a literal cult and of course, users of an insecure protocol, whose leading projects apparently don't care about managing their data and personal communications in a secure way, are falling for this.
@hi_mayank More arguments? ProtonMail aren't here to make emails more secure, or simpler to secure. They knew about Lavabit's fundraising and they (1) didn't implement the DIME, (2) have stayed silent about it, so whereas Levison publicly said that the press might have spared him jail time when he's shut down his company in 2013, he hasn't been so lucky in 2018 and he's probably got an NSL, cancelling all of his plans to make email more secure by developing a modern standard and implementing it on an AGPL-licensed server.
The OpenPGP standard (just like the web) is an excuse for their toxic practices because “someone ought to make money” in a de facto toxic environment. We're currently living in a cult-like era around software because it ought, somehow, to be more and more complex and we ought to build frameworks and SDKs around this. As I write this I'm struggling not to see our entire relationship to IT as enshittified.
