Americans saying that Fahrenheit is really simple cause 0 is when you’re cold and 100 is when you’re hot. Because it is empirical, it is a better solution than Celsius.

They speak like I do calculus every time I go outside
:akko_wtf:
0 is freezing, 20 is moderate, 30 is hot, 40 is really really hot

The only problem with Celsius is that it is not the system you were educated with, and it isn’t the one used around you.

@tournesol > 0 is when you’re cold and 100 is when you’re hot
Do people really say that? Makes as much sense as saying measuring lengths in feet is easy because everyone has feet, except nobody's feet are the exact same length.

@nihl I mean, the feet thing is actually a real argument :bolbsweat:

"1m is abstract, whether I know what 3feet are"

@tournesol Yeah, it's about habits, I can approximately tell what a meter is at least as well as americans can tell what three feet are. People are just used to measurement units they use everyday.

@nihl @tournesol yep, this argument comes back a lot.

@tournesol it's not that I don't use imperial units at all. When it comes to height of an individual, it's easier for me to comprehend in feet instead of metres or cms. But all other scale, I am more comfortable with metric system. But really hate when someone insists one system is more intuitive than other.

@astro_ray yeah, it’s not really a question of intuitivity, you’re right

it just baffles me that government wouldn’t want to teach metric system when it’s so useful in science

@tournesol it always bothered me so much when they said that about Fahrenheit! Of course you find it more intuitive, you haven’t been exposed to anything else yet!!!

And we use temperature on a daily basis for more than just weather, like in baking!! Fahrenheit just makes everything more complicated for no reason. Same with all other imperial units 😒

@terokh I mean, it’s still intuitive for them. But the shear amount of conversion you need to make within the same unit type is … frightening :bolbsweat:
