You don't need a reason to want to block adverts.

It doesn't have to be for security reasons (although there are good security reasons).

You don't have to do it because you want to lessen online surveillance (although that's a good thing too).

You can do it just because you don't want someone trying to sell you something the whole damn time, getting up in your face and interrupting your reading/viewing.

You can block ads because it's simply a form of self-care.

@neil You also don't have to do it because Google putting ads online isn't a magical solution to every monetization problem and shouldn't be treated as this.

You don't have to do it because this business model – running on mass surveillance – consumes a lot of energy, and is extremely polluting.

You can do this, for example, because you don't want to see ads related to your friends' topics of interest, channeling how they'll live their passion into a narrow corridor, or to put on them the burden of resisting to mass surveillance and be punished every time they're trying to solve their infamous reCAPTCHA as the only alternative.

You can block ads merely because you would care for your relatives.
