@evan A French political party dedicated to politics, EELV, has released a guest post on a French political website within one week from a local election claiming that paying for public transportation was an act of solidarity towards those who would pay less, directly attacking another political party at the left proposing to make it free, paid through taxes. You'll probably notice that taxes especially serve to fund solidarity (besides coercion and the military).
This is consistent with Yannick Jadeot calling his electors to vote as “an act of conscience” for the presidential elections, i.e. not for the same other political party, that lost the second turn by 600,000 votes (EELV has made 8% of the total number of votes).
Anyway, I can't give a strong yes if people have to pay for it.
