@limneticvillains There's ProtonMail which is basically an anti-Google, with a few interesting choices, such as a passwords manager (Google will never develop one, because they're crucial to web decentralization!). Cloudflare has also stolen their captcha concept from them lol, and the user experience seems excellent (nowadays…).
Please be aware that it's still proprietary software though. The company could be sold at any time, if not for the convictions of its CEO. And they have an history of digital predation and abuse (that's a bit complex to develop, but I've written about it!).
You could as well get an account on nubo.coop, which is an email cooperative, based on free software. There's basically the “concerned, but casual auntie” route and the “free software/cypherpunk activist” one.
