J'ai actuellement environ 10 projets perso en cours, à différents stages (certains sont juste posés sur le papier, d'autres ont une implémentation trouvable mais ne sont pas vraiment présentables)

Je crois que j'ai un petit problème avec ma capacité à finir quelque chose avant de commencer quelque chose d'autre... Allez hop, c'est décidé, maintenant je ne me permets pas de commencer quelque chose de nouveau avant d'avoir au moins un projet perso en prod.

@grifdail Le plus gros problème de null, c'est qu'il n'est pas explicite dans la plupart des langages. Si tout peut être null, on n'y pense pas, et ça créé un paquet d'erreurs.

Je pense que par exemple les versions récentes de C#, qui permettent d'avoir le null explicit et donnent des avertissements lorsqu'on utilise un nullable sans vérifier, ça évite beaucoup de problèmes, mais dans l'ensemble je préfère toujours la solution monadique Maybe/Option des langages fonctionnels, qui le rend beaucoup plus intentionnel.

@just_chill T'as allé à Fushimi Inari ou pas encore ? Perso c'est un des endroits les plus marquants que j'ai fait au Japon, le soir après le rush des touristes, tout seul avec la nuit qui tombe... J'ai eu une expérience paranormale, c'était génial

@julien Bien sûr il faudrait un système pour envoyer le modèle ou un échantillon de la voix pour que la personne puisse l'utiliser, ce qui servirait aussi de consentement. Genre une interface où tu peux demander à utiliser la voix, la personne reçoit une notification et peut accepter ou non, quelque chose du genre. Comme ça tu dox pas ta voix à tout le monde qui a ton contact, aussi.
De cette façon, on a :
- le consentement
- le fait que ça ne fasse pas dire des choses qu'on ne veut pas parce que c'est uniquement sur nos messages
- le fait que ça ne balance pas nos données à Big Tech en faisant ça localement uniquement.

Mais bon, comme dit précédemment ça fait trop de contraintes pour être réaliste actuellement...

@julien Euh, je ne comprends pas vraiment de quel risque tu parles, si c'est utilisé pour lire les messages de ta famille, tu peux juste leur demander non ? Je ne dis pas que ça doit se généraliser au point qu'on puisse avoir notre voix utilisée sans qu'on le sache hein, mais genre si une application à laquelle je fais confiance me permettait de faire que mes contacts peuvent générer des TTS de mes messages avec ma voix localement sur leur téléphone, je ne serais pas contre (mais pour l'instant ça fait beaucoup trop de contraintes pour être réaliste...)

There are plenty of success stories in the EU, that are just not as mediatized as the US ones, and detractors that want less strict policies are pushing a wrong narrative of "it's impossible to have a successful business in Europe". You don't need a trillion dollar company to have a successful business.

@s1m0n4 @jmaris The Covid 19 vaccine was a collaboration with Pfizer, mostly for clinical trials and the huge need of global distribution (it was a global pandemic after all), but Ozempic was mostly funded by Denmark until it became popular in the US. Clinical trials there were funded by Novo. And since they are the biggest consumers of it, doesn't it make sense for them to invest in it more?

@jmaris A few things on the top of my head to fuel the thread:
- The German company BioNTech made the first mRNA vaccine for Covid-19.
- The Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk found that their world-leading drug for diabetes, Ozempic, was very efficient for weight loss in 2022, saving many American lives (because we all know they are the ones needing it). In 2025, they also sold it in tablet form, making it the first GLP-1 drug that doesn't need an injection.
- A bit older than 10 years, but CERN confirmed the existence of the Higgs Boson is 2012, a crucial element to many physics theories. This year, they were able to transport antimatter (that they manufacture) in a truck. Yes, the thing that disappears when it comes in contact with anything.
- The Dutch ASML managed multiple breakthrough on computer chip lithography that are powering the world's computers (ASML creates the machines TSMC and other chip manufacturers use to create the chips). Just this year, they had a breakthrough on EUV that will increase semiconductor throughput by 50%.
- In the quantum computing realm, there are plenty of European leaders: the French Pasqal and Quandela, the Austrian AQT and the Finnish IQM, among others, provide their technologies to services like Amazon Braket or (if we want to stay in Europe) Scaleway Qiskit.
- For AI, since that's what most tech bros with those arguments are interested about, the French Mistral provides open-weight models that are on par with other open-weight models (when they are released, they don't release new models very frequently compared to the Big 3, that have 10x more employees at least). All that while being the only ChatGPT competitor that has a decent privacy policy that I know of, thanks to the fact that they respect GDPR (yes, that isn't incompatible with innovation)
